A) Scholarships instituted by donors

Class-of-2016 Scholarship

The Class-of-2016 Scholarship has been instituted by the 2016 graduates of IIT Gandhinagar. This is an Merit cum Means (herein after abbreviated as MCM) scholarship initially to one undergraduate student starting in 2016-17. The number of scholarships per year shall increase by one till it reaches to four scholarships every year (by the year 2019-20). Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (except first year) and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000 are eligible. The scholarship amount is ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months.

Class-of-2015 Scholarship

The Class-of-2015 Scholarship has been instituted by the 2015 graduates of IIT Gandhinagar. This is an MCM scholarship initially to one undergraduate student starting in 2017-18. The number of scholarships per year shall increase by one till it reaches to four scholarships every year (by the year 2020-21). Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (except first year) and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000 are eligible. The scholarship amount is ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months.

Kandoi-Dairkee-Gaurav KDG Scholarship

The Kandoi-Dairkee-Gaurav Scholarship has been instituted by three alumni of the Pioneer Batch (BTech graduates of 2012) at IIT Gandhinagar : Mr. Abhishek Kandoi, Mr. Maisum Ali Dairkee and Mr. Anchit Gaurav. One Merit-cum-Means Scholarship will be awarded to a second or third year B.Tech student who is actively involved in non-academic activities of the Institute and showing trajectory towards all rounded growth. The gross annual parental income of the student from all sources should not exceed ₹ 8 Lakhs per annum. Student should secure a minimum CPI of 6.0. The scholarship amount is ₹ 5,000 per month for ten months.

Mahabir Prasad Sultania Scholarship
Durga Devi Sultania Scholarship

These two scholarships have been instituted by Mr. Deepak Sultania for awarding MCM scholarships to two undergraduate students every year. Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (except first year) and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000 are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount is ₹ 5,000 per month for ten months.

Mr Deepak Sultania is the Director of Durga Bearings group, the largest distributor of bearings in India. Starting at an early age in business, he has a rich and varied experience of 37 years in the bearing trade. With his great business acumen and modern management practise he has turned his company from a small trading company to become a market leader, distributing products of multinational bearing brands all over India. Mr Deepak has also been awarded the Samaj Ratna award for his philanthropic work in Mumbai, Rajasthan. He is father of an alumnus of IIT Gandhinagar and has set up these scholarships to honour his father Sri Mahabir Prasad Sultania (the founder of Durga Enterprises) and his mother Smt. Durga Devi Sultania.

Niteen P. Sant Scholarship

The Niteen P. Sant Scholarship was instituted by Mr. Gaurav N Sant in the year 2014. B.Tech students of Civil Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering who are in their second year, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 and a maximum parental income of ₹ 4,50,000 are eligible to apply for this Merit-cum-Means scholarship. The awardee will receive a scholarship of ₹ 20,000 for that academic year.

Amalthea Scholarship

The Amalthea Scholarship was instituted in the year 2016 for awarding an MCM scholarship initially to one undergraduate student starting in 2016-17. The number of scholarships per year shall increase by one every year till it reaches to four scholarships every year (by the year 2019-20). Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (except first year) and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000 are eligible to apply. The recipient of Amalthea Scholarship shall receive ₹ 5,000 per month for ten months.

Lalita J Shah & Jayantilal B Shah Scholarship

The Lalita J Shah & Jayantilal B Shah Scholarship was instituted by Mr. Rajendra Shah in the year 2016 for awarding two MCM scholarships to UG students every year. Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (Except First year) and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000 are eligible for this scholarship. Each awardee shall receive ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months.

Mr Raj shah did his BTech from IIT Bombay and holds a Master’s degree from University of Wisconsin. Mr shah brings unique combination of creative leadership, entrepreneurial success, management discipline, and global experience. At Microsoft, he reenergized their online mapping services, and these mapping assets were acquired by Uber in June 2015. At Google, he spearheaded creation of Maps by establishing a global infrastructure that encompasses all countries mapped by google from the groundup. An entrepreneur by nature, Mr Shah has also held senior management positions in leading Silicon Valley technology firms. This scholarship has been instituted in the name of his parents Mrs Lalita J Shah and Mr Jayantilal B Shah.

P.K. Kelkar Scholarship

The P.K. Kelkar Scholarship was instituted in the year 2016 with the objective of awarding an MCM scholarship to one undergraduate student every year. Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (except first year) and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000 will be eligible for this scholarship. The recipient of P.K. Kelkar Scholarship will be awarded ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months.

Sri Temasek@IIT Gandhinagar Scholarship

Sri Temasek@IIT Gandhinagar Scholarship was instituted by a well-wisher from Singapore who appreciates his opportunity to attend IIT Kanpur for his BTech Program in a field which he loves and also to serve as a Professor at IIT Gandhiangar. The scholarship was started in the year 2016 for awarding an MCM scholarship to one undergraduate student every year (open for second, third and fourth year students). Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000 are eligible to avail this scholarship. The awardee shall receive ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months.

Satyaram Scholarships

The Satyaram Scholarships were instituted by the former Indian Cricketer and philanthropist V. V. S. Laxman in the year 2016. Students with a minimum CPI of 6.5 (Except First year) and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 3,00,000 are eligible for this scholarship. The awardee will be eligible for ₹ 10,000 per month for ten months. The awardee is expected to financially help at least one needy IIT Gandhinagar student in future. These scholarships are being facilitated through the NGO ‘Yuva Unstoppable”.

Prof. M H Divekar Scholarship

Prof. M.H. Divekar Scholarship was instituted by Mrs Mugdha Mukund Divekar in the year 2014 and is open for the third year undergraduate students of Chemical Engineering. This scholarship is awarded every year to the student securing highest grade in Chemical Engineering course at the end of third year. The awardee receives a scholarship amount of ₹ 2,000/- per month for ten months.

Late Prof Divekar, an adjunct Professor at IITGN during Dec 2009 to July 2013 was passionate about chemical engineering experiments. Throughout his professional career he spent many years in designing labs and lab experiments. He made enormous contribution to the IITGN in its early years by setting up excellent teaching laboratories in chemical engineering.

S.C. Mehrotra’s Scholarship

The S.C. Mehrotra’s Scholarship was instituted in the year 2010 and is open to the second year UG students of Civil Engineering. This scholarship once awarded to a second year student, continues for the next six semesters (from 3rd semester to 8th Semester of UG Program). Students having a minimum CPI of 6.5, with annual parental income not more than ₹ 4,50,000/- are eligible for this scholarship. The awardee shall receive ₹ 1500/- p.m. for ten months of academic year. Continuation of the scholarship for the following academic year will be subject to continued good academic performance of the recipient.

Shri S. C. Mehrotra, an IIT Delhi alumnus has professional experience of more than four decades in the field of structural designs for commercial and residential multistory buildings including industrial structures and public infrastructures. He was President of Consulting Engineers Association of India during the period December 2003 to December 2005.

Chandrakant and Patricia Desai Scholarship

The Chandrakant and Patricia Desai Scholarship was instituted in the year 2017 and is open only to the second year UG students of Civil Engineering. This Merit-cum-Means scholarship is awarded every year to one student who has a minimum CPI of 6.5 and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000. The scholarship amount is ₹ 5,000 per month for ten months of the academic year.

Dr. Chandrakant S. Desai is a Regents Professor at the University of Arizona, Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Tucson, AZ , USA. After his high school and college education in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, he received a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in 1959 in Civil Engineering from the Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute, University of Bombay. He joined the Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, The University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ as a Professor and Director of Engineering Mechanics, Geomechanics and Structural Mechanics Program, and later as the Director of the Center of Material Modeling and Computational Mechanics. He served as the Head of the Department from 1987-1991. In 1989, he was awarded the Regents Professorship by The University of Arizona.

Prof. KV Venkatesha Murthy Scholarship

Prof. KV Venkatesha Murthy Scholarship was instituted in the year 2017 and is open to all UG students of Electrical Engineering. This Merit-cum-Means scholarship is awarded every year to one student who has a minimum CPI of 6.5 and whose family annual income is not more than ₹ 8,00,000. The scholarship amount is ₹ 5,000 per month for ten months of the academic year.

Prof. KV Venkatesha Murthy was one of the pioneer faculty members of IIT Gandhinagar, who joined the newly established institute on December 29 2009, thus being a part of the IITGN community for more than seven years. He taught in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Bombay for about 40 years as an exemplary teacher. After obtaining his B.E. (in Electrical Technology) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1963, he pursued his M.Tech and Ph.D from the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay. Known for his dignified unassuming personality and gleaming intellect, Prof. Murthy made an indelible mark as a teacher in the Institute.

Dr. JL Nayyar Scholarship

Dr. JL Nayyar scholarship was instituted by Mr. Mohinder L. Nayyar in the year 2017 and is open to all fourth year UG students of IIT Gandhinagar. This Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is awarded every year to one student who has demonstrated exemplary oral & written communication and presentation skills during the first three years of stay. The gross annual parental income of the student from all sources should not exceed ₹ 8 Lakhs per annum and the student should secure a minimum CPI of 6.5. The scholarship amount is ₹ 5,000 per month for ten months of the academic year.

Mr. Mohinder L. Nayyar, P.E., a resident of Virginia, USA, is an internationally recognized specialist in the areas of piping, valves, materials and codes and standards and was honored by ASME for his contributions to Codes and Standards. Mr. Nayyar is the recipient of several honors and awards, including the Melvin R. Green Medal, ASME Forever Medal for Excellence in piping, ASME Hall of Fame Medal, Master of Power Piping Award, and the ASME Dedicated Service Award. He is a recipient of 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award of IIT Roorkee. He is the author and Editor-in-Chief of the Sixth and Seventh editions of the Piping Handbook and the Piping Databook, internationally used reference books, published by McGraw-Hill Company of New York. He has published articles in Valve Magazine; authored an article title Pipeline for the 7th edition of the Encyclopedia of Science and Technology. He has instituted this scholarship in the honour of his brother Dr. JL Nayyar.

B) Scholarships instituted by IIT Gandhinagar

Scholarship for Academic Excellence

With an aim to reward academic excellence, each of the students who secure the highest CPI in their respective disciplines, are awarded ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months. However, if the awardee is also recipient of any scholarship of equal or higher value, then he/she is eligible only for a one-time receipt of ₹ 5000.

Scholarship for Excellence in Sports and Games

To encourage excellence in sports and games, a total of six scholarships are awarded every year. Students in second, third and fourth year of their UG program can apply and each recipient is awarded ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months. However, if the awardee is also recipient of any scholarship of equal or higher value, then he/she is eligible only for a one-time receipt of ₹ 5000.

Scholarship for Excellence in Arts & Culture

With an objective towards promoting excellence in arts and cultural activities, every year two scholarships are available to UG students of second, third and fourth year, wherein each recipient is awarded ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months. However, if the awardee is also recipient of any scholarship of equal or higher value, then he/she is eligible only for a one-time receipt of ₹ 5000.

Scholarship for Excellence in Social Work and Leadership

Two scholarships have been instituted to encourage students who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and social outreach initiatives. Students in second, third and fourth year of their undergraduate program can apply and each recipient is awarded ₹ 2,000 per month for ten months. However, if the awardee is also recipient of any scholarship of equal or higher value, then he/she is eligible only for a one-time receipt of ₹ 5000.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarship

Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarships are aimed at extending financial support to meritorious students from economically weak backgrounds. Under the MCM Scholarship a maximum of 25% of the enrolled students in the UG program (up to 2015 batch only) and MSc Program (Maths, Physics & Chemistry) are awarded full tuition fee waiver for their current academic year along with a stipend of ₹1,000 per month for ten months. Students whose annual parental income is not more than ₹4,50,000 and having a minimum CPI of 6.5 during the preceding academic year are eligible to apply. The MCM scholarship expires at the end of academic year and is renewed on a yearly basis provided student fulfils all the terms and conditions for the renewal of the scholarship. The Institute also facilitates free basic messing and a nominal pocket allowance for SC/ST category students whose annual parental income is not more than ₹ 4,50,000.

C) Financial Aid

Tuition Fee Waiver for Undergraduate Students Admitted in and after 2016

The new financial assistance scheme for the undergraduate student joining from the academic year 2016 is the following.

TATA Motors Financial Aid Program (TMFAP)

The TMFAP was introduced at IITGN in the year 2016 and is open to all the undergraduate students of IIT Gandhinagar. The main objective is to provide financial assistance to students from economically weaker background. The beneficiary students are expected to donate the money back to IIT Gandhinagar once they are financially independent, which will be used to support other students. Students who obtain a minimum CPI of 6.0 (Except 1st Year) and whose annual family income is not more than ₹ 6,50,000/- in non-metro cities and ₹ 7,50,000/- in metro cities will be eligible to apply for this program.
