N Rama Rao Chair

IIT Gandhinagar has setup a faculty chair in honour of Shri N Rama Rao through a donation by his son Shri N R Narayana Murthy.

Infosys founder Shri N R Narayana Murthy has established the N Rama Rao Chair in memory of his father. The chair is open to faculty members in the disciplines of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Physics at IIT Gandhinagar.

Shri N Rama Rao (1913-1974) spent most of his career as a high school teacher of physics, mathematics and English in Karnataka. Throughout his career, he demonstrated excellence in everything he did. He inspired his students and children to aim high in life.

Shri N R Narayana Murthy

Shri N R Narayana Murthy is founder of Infosys and served as its first CEO from 1981-2002, as chairman of the Infosys board from 2002-2006 and as chief mentor until his retirement in 2011. He is widely credited for being instrumental in shaping the Indian IT sector and the global outsourcing model.

Anirban Dasgupta

Anirban Dasgupta has been a member of the faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar since December 2013. Prior to this, he was a member of Yahoo Labs from 2006-2013 as a postdoctoral fellow, as a Scientist, and as a Senior Scientist. Anirban did his undergraduate in CSE from IIT Kharagpur and MS and Ph.D. from Cornell University, advised by Professor John Hopcroft.

Anirban's research interests broadly lie in the area of randomized algorithms, social networks, and machine learning. Currently, he is working, along with his students and collaborators, on developing various randomized techniques to increase the efficiency of machine learning pipelines. This is primarily achieved by applying the randomized techniques to efficiently solve the various high dimensional vector space optimization problems that form the core of any machine learning problem. He has received the Google Faculty Award (2015), CISCO University Research Award (2016), and the Google India AI/ML Research Award (2020). When not doing research or teaching Anirban likes to read widely, cook, and hopes to get off the chair and start running with his daughter.
