What is the vision of IIT Gandhinagar?

To be an Institution of excellence for creating and imparting knowledge at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the development of the nation and humanity at large. The Vision and Mission statement of the Institute can be found at: http://iitgn.ac.in/pdf/Visionandmission.pdf
2 In what way is IIT Bombay associated with IIT Gandhinagar?

Initially IIT Gandhinagar was mentored by IIT Bombay in terms of faculty resources and curriculum. Over a period of time, IIT GN has recruited sufficient numbers of faculty and developed its own very unique curricula, both at B.Tech. and M.Tech. levels. However, the Institute retains a very warm and active relationship with IIT Bombay and whenever appropriate our students and faculty access the facilities at IIT Bombay.

5 What about laboratories?
Excellent teaching laboratories have been set up. In addition, there are a number of research laboratory facilities to expose students to the latest research in different areas of science and engineering.
6 Is IIT Gandhinagar library well stocked?

The Library has a rapidly expanding (over 12, 000)collection of books including monographs, reference books, text booksetc covering all major disciplines of interest. The catalogue of these  holdings can be accessed online both on campus and off campus. Library also has an online access to the following high quality e-resources:

  • American Chemical Society (ACS) Journals
  • American Physical Society (APS) Journals
  • American Society for Microbiology Journals
  • Annual Reviews Collection
  • ASCE Library
  • ASME Digital Library
  • EBSCO Communication & Mass Media Complete (CMMC)
  • IEEE Xplore ( IEEE/IET)
  • Indian Standards (BIS)
  • JSTOR Archives
  • Nature Journals
  • ProjectMUSE
  • Sage Journals
  • SciVerseScienceDirect
  • SIAM Journals Online
  • SpringerLink
  • ASCE's Civil Engineering Database (CEDB)
  • EBSCO MLA International Bibliography
  • MathSciNet (Mathematical Reviews)
  • SciFinder( Chemical Abstracts)

All these resources can be accessed through the library's home page: http://www.iitgn.ac.in/library.htm which also provides easy access to open databases, Library Online Catalogue and directories. IITGN is an institutional member of INDEST, INFLIBNET and DELNET, and the American Mathematical Society (AMS). Library has an excellent arrangement with all IIT, IIM, IISER libraries for resource sharing.

7 What is the computer/internet facilities on the campus?

Computer facilities at IITGN have been developed with high-end hardware, a wide range of software and excellent connectivity so that students, faculty and staff can carry out their work without interruptions. They can view and download information efficiently for their research, home assignments and other scholarly activities. The LAN setup integrates the entire IITGN community into a single unit. The Institute premises and the student hostels are Wi-Fi enabled. Important scientific software such as Mathematica, PSCAD 4.2, STATA 11.1, Matlab, ANSYS Multi-Physics Simulation Software which includes a variety of CFD softwares such as Fluent, ICEM-CFD and CFX and Finite Element Softwares for Structural Analysis and for problems involving multi-body dynamics, STAR-CCM+ CFD Software and Autodesk Inventor CAD Softwares.

Two computational labs with networked multi-core desktop computers have been set up for teaching computer related courses and for executing computational projects. An initiative to set up a high performance computing (HPC) platform for advancing research and teaching in computational science and engineering and the promotion of the use of GPU and CUDA programming for HPC has been taken recently with the establishment of the IITGN-Fujitsu-Nvidia Computational Design Studio consisting of 7 networked workstations set up with partial support from Fujitsu and Nvidia. The main compute engines of this system are the two Celsius R-670 workstations each consisting of 24 CPU cores, 48 GB main system RAM (i.e CPU cores) and 2 Terabytes of HDD Storage and 2 Tesla C2070 GPU cards consisting a total of 896 CUDA cores and 6GB GPU/Graphics RAM. This gives an initial configuration of 48 CPU cores and about 1800 GPU cores.  The remaining 5 high-end workstations (each consisting of NVIDIA Quadro 2000 cards, 1 GB memory with 1 TB storage,4 CPUs and 4GB RAM )  form a design studio corner to facilitate high fidelity computational modeling of engineered systems as well as to serve as a platform for a variety of CAD/CAE softwares enabling and supporting product design, scientific visualisation etc. The main compute engines will subsequently be placed on GARUDA, India's Grid Computing Infrastructure.
