WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER A FACULTY POSITION AT IITGN?
IITGN offers generous start-up grants that theoretically have no upper limit. We recognize that cutting-edge, high-quality research depends on having good resources and are committed to providing those when warranted.
In addition to supporting individual research requirements, IITGN is committed to developing world-class central research facilities that are perhaps more expensive, but can be utilized by a larger research community. Funds to procure such high-end equipment are above and beyond those available for individual infrastructure, and again do not have a set funding limit.
IITGN recognizes the importance of quality graduate students for the success of any research program and therefore offers ways to attract best and the brightest with options for higher scholarship (up to additional Rs. 10,000 per month) and early PhD program offers (immediately after their undergraduate degree).
We are committed towards supporting applications for fellowships such as the Ramanujan Fellowship, the Ramalingaswamy Fellowship, the INSPIRE Fellowship, the DBT-Wellcome Trust Fellowships and several others. We currently are home to 7 Ramanujan Fellows, 6 INSPIRE Fellows and 1 Ramalingaswamy Fellow.
IITGN will consider supporting post-doctoral fellows through institute funds for productive research faculty.
Funds raised through philanthropic gifts supplement government grants which support excellence by faculty and students.
IITGN rewards faculty who are productive in research with extra travel support through its endowment funds. This support is in addition to the government grants that provide Rs. 1 lakh per year which may be utilized for travel.
We also offer a unique program through which faculty who have been successful in bringing external research grants to the Institute have the opportunity to earn 14 months salary in a year.
Excellence awards have been constituted for faculty demonstrating exceptional research, teaching, outreach and institutional service activities. Such awards include a citation along with a cash prize of upto Rs. 50,000 and additional Rs. 50,000 to support professional activity.
Each PhD student is eligible to receive extra support of upto Rs 2 lakhs (over the duration of the PhD) as a professional fund that can be utilized for attending international conferences.
The strong presence of manufacturing industry, research institutes locally or within a short travel distance such as IPR, ISRO, NID or India’s only Synchrotron source in Indore to name a few, offers ample opportunity for collaborative work.
IITGN has developed what may perhaps be the most innovative and advanced curriculum in India. Our model has been recognized with the World Education Award by the World Education Summit in 2013.
Our 5-week Foundation Programme for first year undergraduates emphasizes creativity, ethics, social engagement, teamwork, physical fitness – “courses” that students do not otherwise have an opportunity to take. This program is widely appreciated and is being emulated across several Institutes in India.
Our curriculum is broad-based and emphasizes depth as well as breadth: design, humanities and life sciences courses are mandatory thereby promoting out-of-the-box and non-linear thinking. Similarly, project-based learning is stressed.
30% of our undergraduates undertake internships in foreign countries.
Numerous extra-curricular activities and community initiatives are so integral that they are almost part of the curriculum.
Besides its formal degree programs, IITGN has also nurtured a number of, interdisciplinary and distinctive programmes that offer opportunities for broader academic discussion and collaboration, for instance:
Design and Innovation
We particularly welcome applicants from interdisciplinary areas whose interests broadly fit into the above themes.
IITGN is a stimulating workplace with excellent faculty-student engagement through various academic and social events.
The Institute provides opportunities and considers providing support for organizing a wide array of professional development activities such as workshops and conferences.
IITGN has a first-rate on-site day-care facility available to staff and faculty at reasonable rates.
Being a new institute, IITGN offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of the Institute. This comes with multitude of possibilities for imaginative individuals to experiment at different levels including teaching, research as well as administration.
