Faculty Recruitment in Humanities and Social Science (HSS) at IITGN |
Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar invites applications from outstanding scholars for faculty positions at all levels (Assistant, Associate, and Professor) in the broad stream of Humanities and Social Science at the Institute. Candidates from all fields of:
1. Humanities, and
2. Social Sciences
are encouraged to apply for the positions. The HSS discipline at IITGN envisages to include English, Linguistics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Developmental Studies, Archaeology, Media Studies, History, and Economics. The Institute is committed to develop a strong and relevant HSS program, and aspires to start Masters and Bachelors program in HSS. The PhD program in HSS is already been offered by the Institute.
The Institute strives for excellence in Humanities and Social Sciences, and provides the following:
1. Chairs and Fellowships to outstanding candidates at all levels. In general, the average emoluments at IITGN will be higher than elsewhere in the country.
2. Liberal moving expenses to all faculty joining the Institute.
3. The teaching load of a faculty member in the Sciences will not normally be more than 1 course per semester. Moreover, faculty in HSS will be encouraged to teach elective courses of their choice.
4. A Professional Development Fund of Rs. 1 Lakh per year (carried forward for up to 3 years) to all faculty members for their professional growth. This may be used for purchasing books/laptop, attending conferences or collaborative visits in India or abroad, etc. Additionally, a sum of Rs 50,000/- per year can be provided for participation in international conferences from the donation funds.
5. Liberal support for travel to conferences, field studies, student recruitment etc. to provide all opportunities for scholarship.
6. Liberal funds to develop a library resource in the subject area at IITGN.
7. If there is only one faculty member in an area, the Institute will endeavour to hire at least one more faculty member in the same area for synergy of research efforts.
In the past year, the Institute has organized some major initiatives in HSS. Some of them are listed below:
While a PhD degree is a minimum requirement for a regular faculty position, we also invite applications from experienced scholars who are looking to spend some time (one semester to a few years) in academia and develop projects of their choice with students, staff, and faculty.
IITGN is a family oriented Institute and will provide all reasonable assistance in initial settlement of a faculty colleague, such as housing, jobs for spouses, schools, and crèches for children etc. Fully furnished guest house accommodation is provided for faculty and family upon joining the Institute for the first two weeks. The Institute’s endeavor has been that our faculty must receive a higher level of support and encouragement for research than any other in the country.
