Materials Engineering

The department of Materials Engineering at IITGN was started in 2012 with Ph.D. and M.Tech. programs and was expanded in 2014 to include undergraduate degree program in Materials Engineering. Current research activity of the department can be broadly categorized into:

  • Biomaterials and tissue engineering, Membrane properties, Nanomaterials
  • Cell-penetrating and Antimicrobial Peptides, Peptide-lipid interactions
  • Friction stir welding, Heat transfer and visco-plastic flow
  • Interface structure and dynamics
  • Transparent conducting oxides, Thin films, Solar cells, Interface thermodynamics

The research facilities, which are continously being upgraded, currently include:

  • Characterization Facility
    • FESEM with EDX, XRD, AFM/SPM
  • Thin Film Processing and Characterization Facility,
    • RF Magnetron sputtering, Spin coater, Four point probe technique
  • Friction Stir Welding Facility, and
  • Wet Lab and Liposome Preparation Facility

In order to meet current and future research and teaching requirements, the department of Materials Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar seeks outstanding applicants from all areas of Materials Engineering to fill multiple positions at all levels.
